Most New Zealand homes pay between $275 and $395 to have their solar panels professionally cleaned. That covers around 90 percent of the jobs we do. Bigger systems and harder roofs cost more, and we tell you which one you are before we start, not after.
A typical residential solar clean sits between $275 and $395 including GST. That covers a system with standard access, and includes our full 7-point inspection, before and after photos, and a written service report.
Three things move your number inside that range: how many panels you have, whether the house is single or double storey, and how easy the roof is to reach. Heavy lichen, a system nobody has touched in years, bird nesting under the array, or a roof needing a scaffold can push you above it. All of that gets quoted up front.
Two questions, no email required.
Ballpark for a clean
$300 – $350
What a dirty system may be costing you
$150 – $650
Per year, in generation you have paid for and are not getting.
This is a ballpark, not a quote. Lichen, bird nesting, how long since the last clean and how we reach the array all move the number. We confirm your actual price before any work starts.
Get my actual priceTwo houses with the same panel count can come back with different numbers. These are the six things that decide yours.
Not purely a headcount. Twenty panels in one clean run is a quicker job than twenty split across three roof faces pointing different directions.
Height changes the gear, the setup time and the safety requirements. Expect roughly $25 more for a double storey, and more again if we need a harness or a platform.
Can we park close and reach the array with a pole system, or is it a steep pitch behind a fence line? Access is the biggest thing people forget when comparing quotes.
The New Zealand problem. Dust rinses off. Lichen has bonded to the glass and frame and has to be treated and lifted, which can take two to three times longer per panel.
An annually maintained system is quick and predictable. One nobody has touched in five years is a restoration, and that first visit costs more than every visit after it.
Myna and pigeon nests mean droppings, nesting material and usually a stained roof underneath. Clearing that is a separate job to cleaning the panels.
You can find someone to put a water blaster over your panels for about $10 a panel. Pressure washing can force water past the edge seals, which is one of the fastest ways to void a panel warranty, and you will not find out until you make a claim.
| Typical price | Inspection | Written report | Warranty docs | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General house washer | About $10 per panel | No | No | No |
| Electrician health check | $349 to $615 | Electrical only | Yes | Yes |
| Eco Shine Solar | $275 to $395 | Full 7-point | Yes, in 48 hours | Yes |
Send your panel count and address. Photos help if you have them, but they are not essential.
You get a fixed price, usually the same day. That price is what you pay.
If anything on site is genuinely different from what was described, we show you and agree it before any work starts.
Before and after photos, the 7-point inspection results, and anything worth watching. Within 48 hours.

Eco Shine Solar is owned and run by three brothers from the Bay of Plenty: Edwin, Sam and Ben O’Dea. We have maintained over 500,000 panels across New Zealand and we were named SEANZ Best Small Business in 2024.
Solar maintenance is the only thing we do. We are not a house washing company with solar as a sideline, and that is why every clean comes with an inspection and a report rather than just a rinse.
The things people ask us most before they book.
Most New Zealand homes pay between $275 and $395 including GST for a professional solar panel clean. The price depends on the number of panels, whether the house is single or double storey, and how accessible the roof is. Systems with heavy lichen or years of build-up cost more on the first clean.
Once a year suits most homes. Go to every six months if you are near the coast, under trees, near farmland, or you have birds nesting under the array. If your output has dropped and nothing else explains it, book regardless of when you last had it done.
In New Zealand conditions, usually yes. Lichen, moss, bird fouling and coastal salt are the norm here rather than the exception, and a neglected system can lose up to 40 percent of its output. For most households the clean pays for itself within a year through recovered generation.
You can, but there are three ways it goes wrong. A water blaster can force water past the panel seals and void your warranty. Tap water leaves mineral deposits that bake on and shade the cells. Household detergent leaves a film that attracts more dirt than you started with. The bigger risk is the roof itself, since most solar cleaning injuries are falls.
Not for a standard water-only exterior clean. Panels are built to be rained on. Inspection work involving isolators or connections does require the system to be isolated, and we handle that as part of the service.
Because it is not the same job. A system left for years has bonded lichen, baked-on soiling and often nesting underneath. It takes longer, uses more consumables, and there is a much higher chance we find a fault that needs documenting. Once it is clean, ongoing service is standard price.
No. The price we quote is the price you pay, and travel is already built in because we schedule jobs by area rather than driving to one house at a time.
We tell you before we do anything. If we arrive and find heavy lichen or bird nesting that was not obvious from the ground, we show you, explain what it adds and let you decide. You will never get an invoice with charges on it you did not agree to first.
Yes, and it is cheaper in one visit than booking separately. Roof treatment, exterior windows and gutter clearing can all be added while we are already set up on site. Just mention it when you book.
Yes. Commercial work is priced per panel and scales with the size of the system. The variables that matter are access, fall protection and whether work can happen during production hours.
